Hey Guys


My dad is going to buy a 2003 yaris 1,4 d4d with 108k miles and full service istory.. he went to look today and liked it.. so i'm going with him tuesday to give it a look over :)


Just wanted to ask what are these cars like reliability? etc etc

anything to look out for? common problems etc etc?

for diesel check for oil leaks, plus engines not making stupid noise.
on road test its not making stupid knocking noise's

diesel are usually loud tbh

Oh i know that.. We have a tdi bora.... but usually some diesels are louder than others.... ie 1.4 tdi's and 1.4 tdci's etc are very rattly and noisy...

These are common rail so much quieter than the old diesel crap. Stupidly reliable engine the d4d but oil changes are very essential though so a proper full service is what your after kinda like yearly or every 8k.

Check for a good cold start not too noisy and not massive amount of black smoke out the back when you do start it.
When its warm just feel the engine for a smooth idle they will have the usual diesel knock but are very smooth tbh

if the engines warm when you get might be something dodgy

i used that trick selling my corsa c on with its rattle chain haha!

The engine is actually really smooth and responsive, however the gearbox will wear faster than the engine is, and I've found my 1st and 2nd to be a bit stiff, but I do a lot of town driving, expect £20 to last 5 days of 30 miles per day If driven poorly haha really good on fuel! A rare sight to see someone else getting the D4D I'm the only person around with a mk1 diesel.

Oh by the way, If you feel like mapping it, it has the same engine as the mini one diesel, so a diesel tuning box for the mini would be compatible

Remember of theres anything you don't like about it, just walk away, they might be something if a rarity but they come and go, so don't feel forced into buying it :) pretty obv really and I'm sure you know it all, bug you'd bee surprised!

my mam has the d4d and has had it from new, brilliant little car never a fault with it, only had to service it and put tyres on :) plus as mentioned really good mpg :)
