What You Need
- Pin
- 2 x 5mm LED (colour of your choice) 13,000mcd
- 2 Resistors (510ohms)
- Screwdrivers
- Solder Iron
Positive of this DIY, If you do stuff up, there are no wires cut and you can just buy the lights from Toyota and replace them back to stock.
Step 1. Removing the Middle of the Dash.
Firstly, you'll need to remove the dash cover. To do this, remove the aircon control knobs. Under the 1st and 3rd knobs, there is a screw. Remove both these screws - once removed, gently pry the main plastic face away from the dash from the bottom. The top hoooks in, have a play and dont be scared to pull it - it wont break - just be careful. unplug the 3 looms and u'll have it all off in notime
Step 2. Flip the front of the dash over, and u'll be confronted with the picture below. Here you can see the control unit for the airconditioning. To remove this, there are two screws at the top and the rest of it is held in by 3 clips. It comes out pretty easily.
Step 3. On the back of the control unit you will see that you can remove the lights with a flathead screw driver.
a) Now you will have the 2 lights in front of you. take apart the light by using the pin to remove the wire from the back (remember how the wire runs, or you will have trouble replacing the light) Once you have done that you will now have your light bulb and bulb holder seperate.
Step 4. Grab the LED and the resistor.
I found that i had to cut alot of the positive wire off the LED (left about 4-5mm) This depends on your soldering skills, this also will have an impact on how much the LED will stick out of the holder.
I wrapped the resistor wire around the LED wire as it is more flexible.
Try not to take to long to solder as heat might kill the LED.
GREAT!! YOU'VE COME THIS FAR, MIGHT AS WELL KEEP GOING.
Step 5. Place the LED wire and resistor wire through the light holder and wrap the wire as per last light, now if you dont remember you will have the other light to guide you. You will notice that the light will not go all the way in, this is ok, just because the resistor is too big, this will not have an effect on the plastic that spreads the LED light. Now put the light in the aircon unit. (this helps to see if it fits)
If you like go to your car and plug in the cables and test the LED out!
If you like it, repeat all the steps to complete the other light, If not go to toyota and ask them to order you the dash light.

Now put your dash back together.
