Crunch From 3Rd - 4Th

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I've been driving my recent 2007 1.8SR but have noticed when going over 5.5K in third and then moving to fourth, there is a slight crunch. Doesn't happen in any gear (Although haven't checked 5th - 4th yet). N

I can hear the throw out bearing while driving sometimes and it's the original clutch from new (car has 64k). I was thinking as a first step maybe try some aftermarket gearbox oil?

Appreciate your time!..Thanks

Not sure if the problem is still in the newer boxes but the older c series 5speed gearbox had this problem of 2nd>3rd and 3rd>4th, which arises from resting your hand on the gear stick while driving/crusing which wears out the synchro. Sounds to me like your 3rd>4th synchro is worn and I presume it's a 6speed box so 3rd>4th and 4th>5th would be your normal road causing gears when you're more likely to have your hand rested on the stick.

Thanks for the response Luke. It's a 5 speed, not sure if they did a 6 speed in the SR? 4th-5th seems fine, haven't tried 5th - 4th yet. What about fluid?
